The Australian Working Holiday Program Grows


For tourists heading to Australia, working holiday visa application is probably one of the most popular ways to visit the country. Indeed, the number of people that are getting such a visa have significantly increased in the last few years. And now, the visa is being offered to more countries around the world.


Australia working holiday visa - gives young people the opportunity to travel around Australia over a 12 month period, with the option of part-time or casual employment.
For those still not familiar with the working holiday visa, it is essentially a visitor visa being offered by a wide range of countries. The visa is a long stay visa which is intended for those wishing to explore the host country more. In the case of Australia, the working holiday visa being offered by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship affords the holder to stay for up to one year in the country. Just recently, an option for a one year renewal has been added to the visa.

One of the things that a lot of travelers love about the working holiday visa is that it allows the holder to get a temporary job while on vacation in the country. While work is not the primary focus of a working holiday (in fact, many consider it only as a “sideline”), many still find it very useful in augmenting their travel funds. A lot of them also consider being able to work for temporary jobs as part of the whole vacation experience.

In the case of Australia, there are actually a multitude of jobs available for working holiday visa holders. Here, the most popular ones are fruit picking and harvesting jobs, as well as other farm related activities. The tourism and services sector is also another popular place for holiday makers to find work in, with a lot of them serving as waiters and cooks and hotels and restaurants.

Australia actually has numerous working holiday exchange programs with other countries. These programs allow young people from these countries to take the year off and spend it in the land down under. On the other hand, many young Australians also regularly participate in the program and visit other host countries.

Of all the working holidaymakers visiting the country, those coming from western countries, Like the United kingdom, as by far the most numerous. However, in recent years, and with the growing economies of their home countries, many young people from Asia have also started to avail of working holiday visas. Just recently, both South Korea and Hong Kong have signed a working holiday exchange program with Australia, and more countries are expected to follow suit.
