ACT Releases State Migration Plan

For those applying for an Australian working visa, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT)will definitely be one of the places that you may want to head to. The ACT is now in demand of a wide variety of  workers and the state government is all out in its effort to attract more workers. This means that there will definitely be a lot of new opportunities in the area.

Being the country's capital, the ACT is the center of finance and trade in the country. There are also other major industries have also located their headquarters in the area. Because of this, the territory needs a regular flow of workers. Thus, the state government has implemented a so called state migration plan in order to attract more workers into the region.
The new migration plan was unveiled by Immigration and Citizenship Minister Chris Bowen and ACT Chief Minister John Stanhope last Nov. 9.according to Bowen, the plan is intended to help the capital more by reorganizing skilled migration into the region to meet its needs. He further explained that they are now shifting their focus into directing workers to those industries that are considered to be highly beneficial to the region.
On the other hand, Stanhope noted that the ACT has the fastest growing economy in Australia. He said that because of the rapid growth of its economy it is able to draw in more workers much faster than other areas in the state of New South Wales. However, he noted that there is still a gap between the demand of the state and the number of workers getting in. He also said that the migration plan is intended to also cover the needs of the state in terms of workers.
One of the  areas where the Australian Capital Territory wants to draw workers to is in to field of finance, since the region is considered as the financial center of the country. The recent rise of information technology companies in the territory have also made it one of the industries that will be given focus in the state migration plan. Bowen also said there will also be other industries that will be added to the list once they have been determined as a priority.
Bowen added that the state migration plan is not limited to New South Wales alone. He said that the state of Victoria is now in the process of preparing its own list of priority occupations. He said that the state migration plan is one of the strategies that the Australian government is employing to solve the current worker shortage that it is experiencing.
