Foreigners Voice Concerns Over Immigration Changes

With all the immigration changes being implemented in Australia, visa holders have now become much worried about their chances of entering the country. Indeed, as much of the new changes are intended at regulating the flow of foreigners in to the country, a lot of people will likely be affected. Thus, many have sought to voice their concerns about the changes.

One of the most affected of these groups are those coming from India. As Australia is one of the most common choices for people from the country to go to for both work and study, the host of immigration changes that swept the continent has also greatly affected them. Thus, many Indians living in Australia are pursuing efforts to ease the effects of these.

To give you an idea of their plight, it would be a good thing to look into the changes implemented by the immigration department. The most notable of these is the reorganization of the Skilled Occupation list, the listing of all positions qualified to be issued a visa. The revamp so the removal of more than a hundred positions that are considered to be of low level. These includes such jobs as vocational ones and those that are assessed to be low level ones.

According to the statistics gathered by the immigration department, most Indian students have actually opted to go for vocational courses. This is mainly because these are the ones with which it would be the easiest to obtain permanent residency in the country under the old system. However, with the revamp, many of the students found themselves with an unsure fate.

The Australian government was quick to respond by allaying the fears of these students and guaranteeing that they would still be given opportunities to live in the country. The government have also sought the release of funding that will be used to refund the expenses that they have incurred.

On the other hand, people coming in from India's neighbor Sri Lanka also voiced their concerns over the new immigration policies. While Indians coming here arrive mainly for studies, Tamils move here for an entirely different reason. Much of the Tamil population in Australia are actually refugees evading persecution in their country. Here, Australia has long been considered by many to be the safest haven that they can head to.

However, the country has recently tightened up its immigration policies for security reasons. Thus, mush of the refugee intake that the country is willing to handle has been slashed down. However, unlike that of Indian students, this case is yet to be decided upon by both parties.
