Settlement Services for Migrants in Australia

As of now, the total number of people produced by massive immigration to Australia is about six million, more than six hundred thousand of them are refugees. In Australia, citizens, whether a refugee or a visa holder has the right to have all the utmost services from the government. These services includes medical, health, insurance and social security services. These are the primary things that people should work on to make their Australian stay ensured and safe.

Australia's settlement services is provided by the Commonwealth government and funded by many state agencies. Its aim is to make new migrants participate to the earliest and the best that they can in Australia's economy and society. Programs and services have evolved and expanded since 1950's because of the ever-growing rate of migrants each year.

Right now, the focus of settlement services is given to refugees or asylums seeker under the humanitarian program. They are people who arrived at the island without a legal permission.

An Australian migrant is entitled for different settlement services like access in medical services, Centrelink, Job Network, The First Home Owner Grant and a lot more. The Commonwealth Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs is providing some specific settlement programs for the benefit of the migrants. These benefits includes: English Language tuition through the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) and on-site and telephone interpreting and translating through the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS). Other settlement programs that are provided is the issuance of financial grants to community and service organizations or programs such as Migrants Resource Centers (MRCs) and the Community Settlement Services Scheme through the Community Grants Program. They also provide humanitarian settlement services through the Integrated Humanitarian Settlement Strategy which was established in 1997 to provide a more targeted approach to settlement services for humanitarian entrants.

A visa holder will get all the benefits of his travel automatically because of the legalization. In contrary with that, refugees or asylums seekers will have to wait for a certain period, after a very heedful assessment. Refugees don't have a sponsor or other form of support for their stay. There are two Refugee Settlement Service Programs that operates in Australia. First is the Support Provided to Refugees and second is the Support Provided to Special Humanitarian Entrants.

Medical services are the most important type of service that migrants should obtain. With a proper process of traveling to Australia, then chances are high that you are subjected for different services. Medical services in Australia includes public hospitals, ambulance, specialists. Finding a Job in Australia

Australia was marked as “The Land of Opportunities”. Most immigrants apply for an Australia skilled visa to the land down under to find a job, create a business and start a new life. There are a vast number of jobs especially reserved for immigrants from different countries. Even those who opt to be at the country for just a holiday, once they needed, there will be easy-to-find jobs for them. There's nobody in Australia who will be left so down-and out. You can feed yourself by looking for a job that you know you are capable of.

To become successful with this aim, show your determination by making early preparations. Do this before you go aboard, maybe a month or two. This preparation will lessen the flaws of your long-anticipated travel. You can make a pre-job hunt on the internet before or during the travel. List down the types of job that came out on your search. Assess which one of them you are qualified or which one can give enough wage to support your stay in Australia.

Separate a job-hunting budget from your whole travel budget. Save some to support your daily job hunting needs. Money is essential in processing some required documents or fees. And once the hunting gets tougher, you would still have money to chill and unwind. Get your budget in order to prevent short-comings.

Know if you'll be committing yourself into a full-time job or a part time job. Full-time jobs may tend to limit your time in exploring the beauty of the country. Part-time jobs on the other hand, offers only small salary. But if you prefer more travel than earn, part-time jobs are the ones appropriate for you.

To easily get a job, look for something that is of your passion. Necessary or not, having an experience of a certain job is an advantage. Being knowledgeable of the features and background of the job will make every task easier.

To make savings, find a job that provides free food and accommodation. These are jobs in outback, winery, fruit picking or farm works. Being in this kind of job will definitely save you more money unlike any other jobs.

Do not bring too much baggage. If you want lesser burdens, try to bring only the important things, especially when you will go to the country alone.

Create a time frame that will determine how long will you be working or how long are you going to explore the country. A time plan will enable you to achieve every goals that you set.

To avoid so much hassles, make a plan that covers everything. From arrival to departure, before, during and after the flight. Every circumstances will go just well. Immigration to Australia isn't just a one-stop train ride, it is a lifetime moment that needs wise decision and planning to make every moment gainful.

Going Over The Cost Of Living In Australia

Australia  is definitely one of the best countries to move to if you are considering immigrating to another country. However, you should be also prepared. As it turns out, immigration to Australia, or in any countries needs intense changes.

In order to cope with such a high cost, you need to know how to spend your money carefully. And knowing the costs will make it a lot easier for you to work out how you are going to spend your money. The following will be a helpful guide on the cost of the more important items. Note, however that these are just average estimates and the actual prices may vary significantly.

The first, and perhaps the most expensive thing that you need to consider is of course a house. Buying a house can set you around $300,000, which you can pay for a 25-year period. However, since you are an immigrant, it is unlikely that you can afford to purchase one right away. Instead, you will most likely to rent your first house. Rentals can go around $400 to $1800 per month, depending on the type of accommodations. Take note that rates are lower in the suburbs and provinces than those in the main cities.

However, that is not all you have to consider. You also need to take into account the various service bills, like electricity, water, phone and internet bills, which would cost you around a hundred dollars a month. If you are living with companions, then the bills will definitely be higher. What you can do is cut of any unnecessary bills. For example, you can purchase a combined phone and internet connection instead of getting separate services for both.

And of course, you will be spending on other essential items such as food and house supplies. Food alone will cost you around $400 a month. This excludes meals that you eat outside, which varies depending on how you frequently do it. Other items, such as toiletries and clothes, will set you by around the same amount. But since you will be using these for a longer period, the costs will be lower in the long run.

Travel expense is also something that you need to think about. However, this also varies, depending on your location and whether or not you own a car, which definitely cost you much higher. However, you can greatly cut back on costs by being a bit more thrifty. Instead of using your car, you can use the public transportation system, especially if the place you are going to is relatively near. Fares are much lower than refueling in the short run. However, if you are going on cross country trip, it would be better if you bring a car as it saves you the time of having to switch vehicles.

Though not a necessity, you also need to set aside money for insurance services. This would cost you around $70 per person, but it's more than worth it. You need not to insure everything, instead go for the more important ones like medical and accident insurance.

Remember, with a few money saving tips, you will be able to make the most out of your first years in Australia.

Australian Workers' Wages or Salary

Australian law has included the policies on salary/wages and benefits of Australia's workers on their strict monitoring, and this includes the holders of Australia skilled visa. The Australian Fair Pay Commission or AFPC recently announced that they will leave Australia's Federal Minimum Wage unchanged at $543.78 per week. The Australian Pay and Classification Scales will also remain unchanged at their present levels. The commission said that the decision is a protection on jobs and support for the recovery of employment. This will go on until the latter part of 2009. And the next change is not clear if it will be going up or going down.

AFPC is an Australian government legislative body that monitors fair pay on workers of different sectors and company nationwide. They are the one who sets the minimum rate of pay for workers.

According to Bureau of Statistics, full-time earning in Australia is A$58,874 per week as of 2008. If overtime and bonuses will be included, it will become more than A$60,000 per annum.

An average male worker earns A$62, 556 every year, while an average female worker earns A$52,520.

Highest paid workers are those from the Capital Territory or Canberra. They have an average salary per year of A$68,978. Following Canberra is Western Australia with A$66,404 earning per annum. Tasmania's workers on the other hand is the country's lowest earners with an average wage of A$52,842 per year.

The best-paid workers are people who works on mines, whose ordinary earnings average is A$101,000 a year. Second are the finance and insurance workers. Every year, they earn an average of A$74,000. Retail workers whose earning per year is A$44,382 and accommodation and restaurant workers, with A$43,201 are two of the lowest-income source in the whole country.

Graduates can expect to start on annual salaries of around $36,000. At the other end of the scale, managing directors earn between $350,000 and $600,000 a year in Sydney compared with $200,000 to $400,000 in Melbourne and $140,000 to $225,000 in Perth. Executive salaries in Australia are fast catching up with the rest of the world. American bosses of top Australian companies earn millions of Australian dollar a year.

Meanwhile, there are predictions that Australian wages have a good chance of increasing in a faster rate than in most other Western countries. This depends on the country's economical recovery speed.

So if you think working abroad is the answer to your prayers, this could be the best time for  immigration to Australia. There are more than 500 career opportunities in Australia, all of them are offering competitive salary.

Australia is on start of the campaign for economical recovery. As compared to other countries, the government is focusing on the rights of its workers. Laborers are protected when it comes to their salary, something that they deserve.

Australian higher education system is under the Higher Education Support Act 2003 where in the set goals are: first, support a higher education that is characterized by quality, diversity and equity access. It should meet Australia's social and economic needs for a highly educated and skilled population. Second, Australian higher education system must support the distinctive purposes of universities. Higher education is there to enable a person to take a leadership role in the intellectual, cultural, economic and social development in his/her community. It is there to have an advancement in knowledge and discoveries and apply them for the betterment of Australia.

A higher education provider is either a university, a self-accrediting provider or a non self-accrediting provider. All in all, there are 39 universities nationwide, 37 public and 2 private. Dealing With Visa Troubles

Definitely the best moment in the whole period of application of visa for Australia  is when you finally get it approved and you receive your card. However, that is not the end of it. You need to very careful with it, as is with your other immigration documents, since these are the very key to your stay in the country.

You also need to be ready in case you get into trouble regarding your stay in the country. Often, even with the visa in hand, you will still be questioned regarding stay. To avoid such problems from happening, here are some tips that you can use.

First of all you need to know everything about your visa status. In that case, read and remember everything that is written in it. You need to pay special attention on the fine (which in some cases, are literally finely printed making them hard to notice), as this is often where the problem starts. The fine print usually contain additional instructions and/or rules regarding the use of your visa. Be also aware of conditions that are not written in your visa but are promulgated by the immigration department of the country you are in. To be sure, check out the department's notice boards once every week for updates.

Also when going around the country, be sure to bring along additional documents aside from your visa.  You some local officials are rather a little finicky regarding foreigners and are not satisfied with just a mere flash of your visa. These might be a bit bulkier, but they will definitely come in handy. Also be ready to answer all of the officers' questions as they will likely engage you in an interview regarding your stay in the country.

Another thing that many visa holders get into trouble with is the deadline for renewing it. It is best that you always look at and remember the date that you are supposed to file for renewal of your visa . Here is a tip that you should definitely keep in mind: Never file your visa renewal on that date. The advice might sound a little weird but there is actually much sense in it. The thing is, with the volume of applications going in the immigration office, your own one isn't likely to processed on that day. When yours do get processed, it might be way off the deadline and will be quickly rejected. Instead, you must  file your application weeks ahead. This not only gives you ample for the documents to be processed, but also saves you from nervously thinking about it when deadline comes. Remember also to frequently check the office on the progress of your renewal application.

Last thing that you need to keep in mind is to always stay in touch with the embassy of the country of your origin. They will give you additional guidelines regarding your stay in the country. Also you can go to them in case you encounter a problem with your visa. Also keep in mind that you need to update your embassy about the status of your stay in the country, so be very diligent in doing so.

Once you have cleared all the problems, then you will be able to enjoy your stay more in the country.

New Changes For Migrant Workers In Australia

For sure, many prospective immigrants have already heard about the changes made to the Australian immigration process. But to those that are not familiar with them, you need to know them now as they are very important in the immigration process.

The new changes took effect last July 1, 2009. According to immigration officials, the new changes were designed to help speed up the application process while at the same time implementing stricter rules for applicants. Most of the new changes were directed towards those applying for work visas, though there were also other changes implemented for other visa types.

Some of the most important changes that were implemented concern nurses wanting to work in the country. The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC), the central governing body for the profession, have issued several new guidelines for prospective applicants.

One of the more significant guidelines set by the ANMC centers on the English language exams that one is required to pass in order to qualify for a visa. According to the new rules set by the ANMC, those applying as either a nurse or a midwife through the AMC will now be required to to take one as part of the process. The results will be valid for two years after the exam. However, the ANMC had implemented a strict passing grade 7 for the IELTS or a B in the OET to qualify. One thing to note is that applicants coming from New Zealand are not required to take the exams, but can still take them as additional proof of their proficiency.

The other new guideline that the ANMC has implemented is an increase in the assessment fees. For a full assessment, the applicant will have to pay AU$690, while if you want to have a modified assessment, it will set you back by AU$210. This would be a little bit of a disappointment, but the council promised that the service will still be the same. The ANMC also said that they will be using a new application form beginning July 1.

On the other hand, the Trade Recognition Australia, which covers applications from oversees traders, also announced that they will be using a new set of application forms. They also said that they are also increasing their skills assessment period from 10 to 30 days. They added that the measure is intended for the introduction of new assessment methods and the standardization of the application period.

Other important changes that the immigration to Australia has taken for the last few months have been the revision of the critical list for vocational workers. Some common jobs have now been taken off from the list and some new ones are included as well. According to immigration officials, they are expecting a few more changes to come out from various agencies regarding worker immigrants.

What is Australia Permanent Residence?

Australia's Permanent residents are those who migrated holding a permanent residency visa for Australia, but are not original citizens of the Commonwealth of Australia. Immigrants will have to wait for two more years before they can get any social security payments.

As compared to a temporary residency visa, the permanent residency gets more benefits. Holders of Temporary visa can only live and work in Australia in a limited period. Permanent visas give the holder a chance to stay in the country indefinitely.

But this type of visa also expires with a life span of five years from the date that it was granted to the applicant. After the expiration, the holder can now leave or enter Australia anytime e/she wants without breaching the Australian law. This is by obtaining Resident Return Visa or RRV, a kind of visa that allows immigrants who wishes to travel to and from Australia as a permanent resident. He/she can now stay in the country like a natural citizen. The only consequence is, they cannot stay for long outside the country, or it will be revoked in case the holder got involved in a criminal misconduct.

Right now, there are two programs to grant permanent residency. One is the Migration Program for skilled migrants and second is the Humanitarian Program which is for refugees seeking permanent residency.

Permanent residence or visa will give you so much benefit. They get right and privileges on different services like free and subsided legal and health services and education. The Different Types Of Work Visas

The work visa is the most important thing that you need if you want to be able to get a job in Australia. However, many visa applicants don't know much about the various types of work visas available. And this often leads to confusion on many applicants' part.

As it turns out, the working visa Australia is selling is not a single type but is further divided into subtypes that are specifically design for each demand. And take note that each type have its own application form. Knowing the various types will greatly help you in determining which one you are going to need.

The most common type of visa sought by foreign workers is the skilled independent visa. This type allows workers to apply for work in Australia even without prior recommendation from any entity. This is very useful if you have no aid in entering to the country.

On the other hand, if you have a relative in Australia, then you can apply for a sponsored visa. The processing of this type is much faster than the above, since you already have an Australian resident vouching for you.

In some cases, any of the Australian states themselves can sponsor visa application. This is usually done to meet the demands for workers in certain areas of the requesting state. The general state/territory sponsored visa allows the holder to live in any region within the state, while the regional sponsored visa limits the holder to the specified region. The latter is used when the needed workforce is limited to, or have the highest demand in, a particular region. Note that these types are most often used to fill government contracts, but may also be extended to government sanctioned industries.

On the other hand, foreign students currently studying in the country can extend their stay by converting their student visas into skilled overseas student visas. These are valid for both current undergraduates or recent graduates. This type allows the student to immediately seek a job to help finance his study or for the fresh graduate to search for a job to settle in the country. In some cases, you can also avail of recognized graduate visas for easier employment. These are usually handed to deserving applicants to meet the needs of work areas lacking in manpower.

One thing you need to remember is that, while there are several types of  Australia working holiday visa, this all have the same requirements. Aside from the general requirements such as age and qualifications, the applicant must also be able to present proof of his most recent work experience. An exception to this are students who have already been studying in Australia for at least two years. Applicants will also be required to pass language proficiency tests before they can be granted the visas.

However, knowing how to apply for your visa the right way will definitely ease out much of the hassle, and you will have more time to think about your studies.

The first thing Australian embassies will take a look at is if you can pay the tuition. This is no problem when you are studying under a grant, since all your expenses are already paid for. Getting A Job Abroad Through Labor Agreements

There are many different ways that you can get to work abroad if you plan to go to Australia. You can either go the hard way by applying for a position abroad directly. And there is of course the easier way of getting a job by going under a labor agreement.

But the word “easier” doesn't necessarily mean as such. In fact, getting work abroad through a labor agreement might be as hard as applying to a company directly. However, there are indeed several advantages that you can get when applying through the agreement. One is that you are assured that there is a definite demand for the position, meaning you have a high chance of being hired. Another advantage is that those applying under a labor agreement are place on a higher priority when getting visas.

But before you can apply, you need to know more about labor agreements. The labor agreement is basically a signed agreement between two countries for exchange of workers. The labor agreement can be either for a single job type (such as medical professions) or a wider range of different jobs. The agreement is usually part of a general trade agreement between countries. Note that companies have the option of either getting their employees through the agreement or by directly hiring them.

As of current, the most in demand positions under labor agreements are still those in the medical professions. Specifically, nurses are the most extensively covered by such agreements, with several new ones being established yearly. Vocational positions follow closely, with demand for skilled workers. The types of jobs offered under an agreement depends on the needs of country contracting it.

Ostensibly, the best thing that comes out when getting a job through labor agreements is that you have an easier chance of immigrating abroad. Aside from placing higher in the visa application priority list, you are also accorded various privileges. In the case of Australia, for example, various labor agreements have granted foreign workers an unlimited number of times to go in and out of the country. Also, visa holders under the agreement are allowed to sponsor up to two secondary applicants who can work in the country. The labor agreement also allows temporary visa holders to renew them many number of times as long as it is still in place.

Australian permanent visa holders are also entitled to several other privileges under a labor agreement. Aside from the fact that they are allowed to work on a country on a regular basis, they are also given access to healthcare benefits and social security services. However, the actual extent of such depends on those that are specified by the agreement. Thus, when applying for a visa under a labor agreement, be sure to read through the agreement first to fully understand the privileges under it.
